Egyptian Ambassador Visits NFRA Kanengo Depot to Explore Cooperation in food Storage

The Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi, Her Excellency Rasha Hamdy, today visited the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) Kanengo Depot in Lilongwe to familiarise herself with the Agency’s grain storage facilities and discuss possible areas of cooperation.

During the visit, the Ambassador indicated that Egypt is willing to provide technical support, including the deployment of experts to assess the condition of some silos at Kanengo and advise on appropriate measures for their improvement.

She said the proposed support could also cover capacity building, staff training, and technology transfer, aimed at strengthening NFRA’s ability to manage long-term grain storage, quality control, and agro-processing.

Speaking during the tour, NFRA Board Chairperson Dr. Bruce Munthali said the Agency is engaging various partners to enhance grain storage infrastructure and safeguard the country’s strategic food reserves.

He added that collaboration with the Egyptian government presents an opportunity to explore improved storage methods for maize and other strategic crops, as well as knowledge sharing based on Egypt’s experience in grain management.

The visit highlights the continued cooperation between Malawi and Egypt in efforts to strengthen national food security.
