The journey has begun 🇲🇼🇿🇲

Bags of maize were lifted, stacked, and sealed as truck engines rumbled to life. One by one, the trucks pulled off, beginning their long journey from Zambia to Malawi, carrying not just maize but reassurance for millions of Malawians.

Today, the Malawi Government through the National Food Reserve Agency NFRA officially commenced the transportation of maize from Zambia under an agreement to procure 200,000 metric tonnes. The first consignment of 103,000 metric tonnes is now on the move, with trucks beginning their journey today in the presence of Malawi’s Minister of Agriculture Hon. Roza Mbilizi and Zambia’s Minister of Agriculture Hon. Reuben Mtolo Phiri.

This marks a critical step in strengthening national food security and stabilising maize availability in the country. NFRA remains committed to safeguarding Malawi’s strategic food reserves, with more trucks expected to roll in the coming days until the full 200,000 metric tonnes is delivered.

From the loading bay to the border, the work has begun, securing food for the nation.
